• Visit Aveiro to discover a landscape dominated by water
Aveiro, next to the sea and the ria (estuary), is crossed by a network of channels through which moliceiros (local boats) meander. These slim, colourful vessels used to be used to collect algae and seaweed, and today are for sightseeing trips.
• Aveiro and Art Nouveau
Aveiro has a number of buildings in Art Nouveau style that are worth seeing. Many are situated along the main channel, but there are some off the beaten track and in other locations. The location of the buildings is indicated in a guide available at the Tourist Office and you can get to know this style even better in the Museum dedicated to it.
• Museums
Another important place to visit is the Aveiro Museum in the Convent of Jesus, where you can admire the Mausoleum of Princess Saint Joana and the gilded woodcarvings that decorate the interior of the church. These are to be found in abundance in the chapel of Senhor das Barrocas and with less exuberance in the Misericordia Church, whose mannerist portal deserves mention. Those who appreciate contemporary Portuguese architecture should not miss the University buildings.

A less expensive way to reach the Porto-Campanhã railway station is to use the Metro, Violet (E) Line, which has a terminal at the airport. The trip between the airport and the railway station take about 33 minutes (Z4 ticket). Click here for Metro information. The train journey to Aveiro takes about 40 minutes if you take the Alfa Pendular train and Intercidades or 60 minutes if you take a regular urban train. There are many trains running regularly to Aveiro from Porto. Click here for train timetables.

A two-day European forum for high-level discussions between academic and industrial users, and consortium partners on the latest developments in solid-state NMR spectroscopy and their applications in contemporary chemistry and materials research.
The program was structured into six distinct symposiums, each centered around a different research talk for solid-state NMR, additional speakers and a round table were also foreseen. Each symposium, guided by a prominent scientist, featured an academic overview of the theme, a presentation from a PANACEA network user, and one from an industrial expert.
The first day, Wednesday 25th of September, was centered around the subsequent subjects:
- Solid-state NMR inorganic and hybrid materials
- Solid-state NMR at the interface of chemistry and biology
- Solid-state NMR instrumentation, software and other perspectives
- Solid-state NMR for pharmaceutical research
At the end of the day a festive dinner was organized by the hosts creating synergies and further interesting discussions among participants in downtown Aveiro.
The second day, Thursday 26th of September, was centered around the subsequent subjects:
- Solid-state NMR for energy materials and sustainability
- Perspectives on the use of AI tools in Chemistry
In addition, a Users Assembly and a round table centered on long-term sustainability of PANACEA, links with other EU Research Infrastructures was held on that same morning.
This meeting adopted a hybrid format, combining a dynamic fusion of remote and on-site participants.
The agenda also included several scheduled discussions and aims to encourage interactions among participants, whether attending remotely or on-site.
All presentations are available on the project website [Files > Shared Files > Third Annual User Meeting 25-26/09/2024]
